Work undertaken in this squad:
A. Continuing development of long axis stroke and drills.
B. Continuing development of stroke efficiency.
C. Full training and development of breaststroke.
D. Full training and development of the butterfly stroke through broken swims and drills.
E. Understanding of FINA laws covering starts and turns.
F. Understanding the importance of hydration.
G. Introduction to I.M swimming.
H. Continuing advanced sculling techniques.
I. Understanding the use of the pace clock.

Squad Kit Requirement:

  • Kickboard
  • Short Blade Training Fins

 

At the end of this stage participants will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of preparation for exercise
2. Perform a front crawl and Backstroke OPEN TURN.
3. Perform a 2-hand touch turn and finish in Both Butterfly and Breaststroke.
4. Swim 100 metres on Front crawl and Backstroke without stopping using correct legal open or tumble turns.
5. Dive from a racing block with confidence.
6. Swim 25 metres Butterfly to include rhythmical breathing with arms over the water.
7. Swim 25 metres LEGAL breaststroke, to include transition to stroke.
8. Swim 100 metres Individual medley working on legal turns.
9. KICK 200m without aids on all four strokes.
10. Demonstrate, understand and implement lane etiquette and timing using the pace clock (5 second rule) for spacing
11. Have and maintain correct equipment for Dolphins 6 Squad

Swimmers must complete a minimum 9 criteria from the 11 above to be considered for Dolphin 7 squad with the remaining 2 having been addressed and discussed with the swimmer and coach before progression to the next squad can be made.

Notes: Speed for swims will not be an issue for this squad.  Good form i.e. able to keep and understand good technique is of greater importance.  Progression to next squad will be judged on a regular basis using the guidelines above.
